The Annunciation

G od sent the angel Gabriel to a city called Nazareth, in Galilee, to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

The angel came in to her, and said, “Be glad, favored one: the Lord is with you. You are blessed among women.”

The Annunciation
"The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee..."
When she saw him, she was troubled by what he said, and wondered to herself what kind of greeting this was.

And the angel said to her, “Do not fear, Mary: you have found favor with God. Watch: you will conceive, and bear a son, and call his name Jesus. He will be great, and shall be called the son of the Highest: and the Lord God will give him the throne of his forefather David. He will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end. “

Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, seeing that I have not known a man?”

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you: therefore also the holy thing which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God.

“And see, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age, and is in her sixth month, who was called barren. For with God, nothing shall be impossible.”

Mary answered, “You see the servant of the Lord; let it be as you have said.” And the angel left her.
