The City and the Tower

A fter the flood the whole earth spoke a single language.

The Tower of Babel
"...a tower whose top may reach unto heaven..."
And the people said to each other, “Let us make bricks, and build a city, and a tower whose top will reach the sky, so that we can make a name for ourselves.”

God came down to see the city and the tower that the people were building. God said, “The people are united, and they all speak one language—and look at what they are beginning to do. Now nothing that they have set their minds to will be impossible for them.

“Let us go down and confuse their language, so that they cannot understand each other’s speech.”

So God scattered the people over all the earth, and gave them different languages—and they never finished building the city.
